l33-tuxedo | hi falktx, can you help me with carla win bridges | 10:15 |
l33-tuxedo | ? | 10:15 |
falktx | depends on what you need | 10:16 |
l33-tuxedo | 32 bit win vst support mainly, 64 bit would be nice, too ;) | 10:16 |
l33-tuxedo | i have allready airwave installed...but i think airwave isnt running in realtime, allways makes xruns | 10:16 |
l33-tuxedo | now with carla, , everything greats | 10:17 |
l33-tuxedo | but | 10:17 |
l33-tuxedo | i ve heard since some days, you have 32 bit support | 10:17 |
l33-tuxedo | so i uninstalled and tried to install carla-win-32 - git and 64 git too, but both failed to build at same point | 10:18 |
falktx | build from where? AUR? | 10:20 |
l33-tuxedo | yes | 10:21 |
l33-tuxedo | i am using AUR because i have then the garantee to successfully remove the package later | 10:22 |
falktx | the builds are ok now | 10:22 |
falktx | try again | 10:22 |

l33-tuxedo | it builds now, i built before the old makepkg file, now the new one with the added liblo=false is building... | 12:25 |
l33-tuxedo | thank you falktx|work | 12:25 |
l33-tuxedo | why liblo=false .....is it because there is no liblo-dev for arch linux??? curious... | 12:28 |

hogslammer | good morning from Kansas | 15:48 |
hogslammer | I installed kxstudio latest version. I use Logitech 930 business edition webcams to use with obs to stream live. The problem is that in Jack, the usb microphones do not show up. In Kmix mixer they are indeed there. only way to get it to work with the patchbay is to install zita, but i think i could do same with alsa-in command. why do i have to punch in commands instead of just being able to have them listed so i can route them into the | 15:50 |
hogslammer | pulseaudio sink.? | 15:50 |
hogslammer | so hard for me to explain the problem. | 15:51 |
holstein | nah, i think i understand. but, here is what i see is the issue | 15:52 |
holstein | *each* of those devices will have a seperate USB audio interface.. so, you are basically trying to use multiple devices with JACK.. which, will be a challenge | 15:52 |
holstein | what do i suggest? since, no one in broadcast would say that using those mic's is a good idea, i say, get a cheap-o audio mixer, you can find some with USB outputs.. you can then have one audio device running jack, with multiple nicer/more-appropriate mics with the ability to mix to obs, or whatever you like | 15:53 |
holstein | you can look into using jack with multiple devices.. but, i think you'll find, you'l spend a lot of time setting that up, and it wont be all that stable, and, still wont address the quality issue with that hardware, generally | 15:54 |
holstein | something along the lines of this, is what im talking about http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/QX1202USB where you would be able to use normal mics | 15:55 |
LAbot | Title: Behringer Xenyx QX1202USB | Sweetwater.com (at www.sweetwater.com) | 15:55 |
hogslammer | thanks for the suggestion | 15:56 |
hogslammer | i figured since its possible and stable in windows that linux was at least that | 15:57 |
holstein | sure, and it *is* possible and stable in linux, as well | 15:57 |
hogslammer | not slamming linux at all. im trying to gain the free tools linux offers to expand. | 15:57 |
holstein | just stop using jack, and use pulse, as you are not using jack in windows | 15:57 |
holstein | hey, you can slam what you like.. but, those devices are not promising jack support. and jack is not a "casual" tool for using multiple devices like that | 15:58 |
holstein | you can likely do what you need to do without jack, anyway.. you may prefer routing with pavucontrol | 15:58 |
holstein | or, you can read about multiple devices with jack http://manual.ardour.org/setting-up-your-system/using_more_than_one_audio_device/ | 15:59 |
hogslammer | well when i cast live in windows, im rolling 2 webcams, and a kontrol 3 usb sound pedal that lines in my guitar and out puts to the line in of my builtin soundcard. in linux, all i get is hiss. and guessing games start in linux cause the linein isnt named linein in jack. | 15:59 |
holstein | you cant trust those alsa labels | 15:59 |
holstein | if any maufacturer wants, they can make sure alsa reports the labels of the jacks properly.. but, typically, its just reverse engineering and luck | 16:00 |
holstein | anyways, if you are new to linux, i say, start with less hardware, if you can.. and take it slowly, like you did in windows | 16:00 |
hogslammer | im learning the linux way. i used linux mint first, then wanted wineasio to install my guitar rig 4 software, but it was crashing. | 16:00 |
hogslammer | same problem was that i cannot get rakarack to use the usb kontrol3 to get any sound signals. | 16:01 |
holstein | yup. and again, if the guitar rig creators want to support linux, they can.. but if they dont, i wouldnt expect wine to be magic | 16:01 |
holstein | i would try pairing down as much as you can, and route rakarrack.. rakarrack was working quite stable for me with my testing with one audio device | 16:02 |
holstein | if you want to use rakarrack, you'll want jack. but, you may have to bring those sources in via pavucontrol, from the pulse to jack bridge.. which, adds overhead | 16:02 |
hogslammer | NI said they dont support it but it supposed to work fine in linux. I read an article about getting the demo of guitar rig 5 to work with the wineasio for ultra low latency, but since i was running linux mint instead of Arch and i own guitar rig 4 instead of the 5 the scripts were failing. and im ignorant. | 16:03 |
hogslammer | all pauvcontrol says is input and outputs are to jack sink and sources. no help there. | 16:03 |
holstein | well, i like to stick to the facts of the matter as much as possible. and, nothing about linux is preventing it from working.. | 16:03 |
holstein | you wont get "low latency" from wine | 16:04 |
hogslammer | im determined holstein | 16:04 |
holstein | hogslammer: sure, but, determination is not enough.. computers dont really care if we are determined | 16:04 |
holstein | if the hardware doesnt support linux.. and it doesnt promise it will, nothing is broken.. and all of linux is open | 16:04 |
holstein | it can be challenging, for sure.. but, all im suggesting is, take it slower.. try only one audio device.. see if rakarrack is even something that will do what you need | 16:05 |
hogslammer | i got rakarack to use my guitar rig pedal one time last night by installing zita and it created the input and output so i could connect it to the pulseaudio sink, and boom it worked, but then i opened a youtube video and the whole computer froze up hard. | 16:05 |
holstein | sure, but, you dont *need* a flash video to do what you are doing | 16:05 |
holstein | thats a lot of variables | 16:05 |
hogslammer | I hear that everything is using pulseaudio, yet seems like kxstudio is big on alsa support. | 16:09 |
holstein | jack | 16:10 |
holstein | anyways, thats what you are using.. jack.. | 16:10 |
hogslammer | yes jack | 16:10 |
holstein | its not really that its "big on alsa" or, jack, for that matter | 16:10 |
holstein | its that jack is literally the sound server infrastructure that facilitates the pro audio work flow in linux | 16:10 |
holstein | but, i wouldnt get too bent out of shape over any of that, or, chasing low latency just yet | 16:11 |
hogslammer | it floors me that it ignores my usb microphones though | 16:11 |
holstein | its not | 16:11 |
hogslammer | it thinks HDMI is real important though. lists 4 instances. | 16:11 |
holstein | its that the USB microphones are not intended to do what you are doing with them | 16:11 |
holstein | i assure you, it is not thinking at all ;) | 16:11 |
hogslammer | i was thinking they are blacklisted | 16:12 |
hogslammer | if i could somehow find out if they are, i could unblacklist them. | 16:12 |
holstein | check and see | 16:12 |
holstein | thats why i say, do one at a time | 16:12 |
hogslammer | i have no clue where to look | 16:12 |
holstein | no need to plug everything in, just plug one in, with no usb hubs, right into the machine, and troubleshoot it as you would any audio device | 16:12 |
hogslammer | im sure its said in the man pages for jack? | 16:13 |
holstein | no | 16:13 |
holstein | this is nothing to do with jack, yet | 16:13 |
hogslammer | oh | 16:13 |
holstein | this is only to answer the question you have.. "is it blacklisted".. | 16:13 |
holstein | so, is linux seeing that audio device? | 16:13 |
hogslammer | yes | 16:13 |
holstein | thats the question.. no need to launch youtube, or, jack.. etc | 16:13 |
hogslammer | Kmix shows all 2 of the logitech webcam mics. | 16:13 |
holstein | just keep it simple.. think about what you would do in windows | 16:13 |
holstein | you have lots of accumulated experience in windows.. you can do the same here.. | 16:14 |
holstein | what would i do? | 16:14 |
hogslammer | the cameras are UVC | 16:14 |
holstein | i plug *one* camera in.. i test it | 16:14 |
hogslammer | which means no need to install anything they just work out of the box across all platforms. | 16:14 |
holstein | independent of jack.. etc | 16:14 |
hogslammer | everything works in linux mint | 16:15 |
holstein | again, nothing in linux is preventing those things from working. but assuming magic wont really help | 16:15 |
holstein | and, i say, you should do this in mint, since, you are more comfortable there | 16:15 |
hogslammer | i installed kxstudio, and OBS sees no sound cards or mics. so i install pulseaudio | 16:15 |
holstein | you can add the kxstudio repos in mint, if you need a kxstudio tool there | 16:15 |
holstein | but, you likely dont | 16:15 |
*** pandaa is now known as BbT0n | 16:15
holstein | anyways, linux is linux.. the kernels are the same, and the support for the hardware is the same | 16:15 |
hogslammer | and now OBS says (because of jack) PulseAudio Monitor in JACK | 16:16 |
holstein | right | 16:16 |
holstein | but, do you need jack? | 16:16 |
holstein | have you tested to see if the devices are blacklisted? have you tested just one audio device? | 16:16 |
hogslammer | so this means i have to use the patchbay and setup a software mixer to control volumes etc. but jack dont show the usb microphones at all. only by doing zita a2j etc it shows up. | 16:16 |
holstein | i would plug *one* audio device in, and run a few commands for making sure the device is present, etc.. | 16:16 |
holstein | i would close JACK | 16:17 |
holstein | jack is not part of the solution right now.. its just further complicating things | 16:17 |
hogslammer | ok | 16:17 |
holstein | in a terminal, i run "aplay -l" and "arecord -l" | 16:17 |
hogslammer | lists devices that can play and record | 16:17 |
holstein | those list what alsa is capable of using. if i dont see the devices there, then jack wont be able to use them.. jack, pulse.. etc.. | 16:17 |
holstein | hogslammer: no | 16:17 |
holstein | hogslammer: this is about what alsa can "see".. | 16:18 |
hogslammer | ok | 16:18 |
hogslammer | awesome | 16:18 |
hogslammer | so if arecord and aplay dont show, then ... im out of luck? | 16:19 |
hogslammer | to use with jack? | 16:19 |
*** louigi has quit IRC | 16:19
holstein | hogslammer: this, again, has nothing to do with luck | 16:19 |
holstein | those literally list what alsa is seeing.. why the are or are not present is another matter.. | 16:20 |
holstein | and, you dont *need* to worry with jack, just yet, at all | 16:20 |
hogslammer | what if they are not present then. | 16:20 |
holstein | you just know that, you have no need to move on to jack, and try and make it use that device.. it'll never happen | 16:20 |
hogslammer | i think im going to move on to either back to linux mint then, or try arch linux. | 16:21 |
holstein | hogslammer: i dont know, friend. i dont have the stuff in front of me.. what would i do? if you say it works in mint, i load up the live mint iso that i know the hardware supported, and make some tests and notes | 16:21 |
holstein | all of these tools are the same, on all the distros | 16:21 |
holstein | you should use which ever you can use best, and easiest | 16:21 |
hogslammer | only reason i went to kxstudio was all the awesome vsts and workstations and the low latency kernel etc. but it didnt mix with streaming live using obs cause i need my webcam microphones to work too. | 16:22 |
holstein | you can have the same kernel | 16:22 |
holstein | and, the same tools | 16:22 |
holstein | and, linux VST's | 16:22 |
holstein | the windows VST's will have the same chance working on any linux | 16:22 |
holstein | i say, if you are comfortable in mint, use it.. | 16:23 |
hogslammer | i can stream live obs fine with both webcams in linux mint out of the box. i thought i would try kxstudio cause it possibly had better multisoundcard support out of the box. but it dont the way i wanted. and i fiddled, and fiddled, but still failed to get my desired setup. | 16:24 |
holstein | no.. it has the same support | 16:24 |
holstein | linux = linux | 16:24 |
hogslammer | alli have to do is stop jack period. then rerun pulse audio. and it will be just like linux mint. | 16:25 |
holstein | nothing about linux is preventing anything from working. but, throwing jack into the mix may just add a level of complexity to the scenario that may, in your case, just cause more issues for you | 16:25 |
holstein | hogslammer: there are other variables, that *can* be different. different kernel versions, and firmware versions.. thats why, i would load what i know works, and look at what is there.. | 16:26 |
hogslammer | its overwhelming complexity for sure. im very determined to keep trying to get it to work. | 16:27 |
hogslammer | i better get to class. thank you for consulting with me! | 16:27 |
holstein | sure.. good luck | 16:27 |
holstein | take it slow, and work with things seperately | 16:27 |
hogslammer | its fun to figure it out. | 16:28 |
holstein | think about how long you used windows without adding usb audio devices to it.. | 16:28 |
hogslammer | 0 seconds | 16:28 |
hogslammer | keyboard mouse is usb | 16:28 |
holstein | well, you know what i mean | 16:28 |
holstein | you dont, load windows 10, and in the first day, expect what you are expecting | 16:29 |
hogslammer | im on 10 and its ok. | 16:29 |
hogslammer | no touchscreen support for this laptop yet in linux. | 16:29 |
holstein | there are legitimate learning curves, and my only suggestion is, to have realistic expectations and set yourself up for success | 16:29 |
hogslammer | well, im just trying to avoid as much as possible having to do stuff like configuring via terminal, irq handling and address changes etc. its slightly frustrating. | 16:30 |
holstein | well, think of it this way | 16:31 |
holstein | a team of experts were hired, and likely worked years, making sure all that hardware works in windows and OSX | 16:31 |
holstein | you are taking that burden of support on yourself.. so you *will* need to configure things | 16:31 |
holstein | test and configure. | 16:31 |
hogslammer | exactly. i made my bed, and im now laying in it. | 16:31 |
holstein | irq issues can be looked at.. and you can see if you are having them, or not | 16:32 |
hogslammer | k im outta here. take care holstein. | 16:33 |
