holsteinhalfbeing: you are trying to build your own kernel?01:25
holsteinhalfbeing: i say, try the deb for the rt kernel that is alreay made for avlinux01:25
halfbeingholstein: avlinux is 32-bit only. i've got a 64-bit system.01:43
holsteinyou can try the lowlatency one, provded from the ubuntu repos01:44
holsteinyou can try via ppa and pick a 32bit rt kernel from an older version, or a current one, if you can fine it https://launchpad.net/~abogani/+ppa-packages01:45

halfbeingholstein: i run reaper in wine-rt. it used to work ok, but now it's completely crackly. someone else said that they also used reaper and found that rt gave better performance. i can't run windows 7 on my laptop because of interrupt conflicts, so i have no choice but to get reaper working in linux. i'm going to reboot into liquorix in a couple of minutes and see how that goes.04:54

halfbeingJackWinter: the cpu usage of reaper seems to be much heavier than i remember it in the past. trying it just now the crackling sometimes degenerates into a constant buzz. where i'm staying at the moment i have been using reaper on my hosts' imac, using similar numbers of effects and soft synths, with no problem. it is a 2.66GHz core2duo, as opposed to my laptop's 1.5GHz core2duo, so not a huge difference in specs. why should reaper b05:35
halfbeinge so demanding on the processor when running in wine?05:35
halfbeingi don't know what has changed except for software upgrades. it's the same hardware and the same usb audio interface. i've been trying 10ms latency, but even if i push it up to 80 or 100ms it's still crackly.05:37

JohnnyLcan someone tell me, the latest kxstudio is 14.04?19:17
distrozapperJohnnyL, latest kxstudio iso is based on ubuntu 14.04 LTS, so yes19:20
JohnnyLdistrozapper: oh ok19:22
JohnnyLhey distrozapper ltns. :)19:22
JohnnyLapt-get update will get all the latest I assume (ardour4,etc)?19:22
distrozapperJohnnyL, yes, apt-get update should give you latest package versions. Regarding ardour4, it is 4.1.0 here19:27
JohnnyLdistrozapper: ah ok.19:27
JohnnyLthere any news on vst support?19:29
JohnnyLi purchased a few windows vst a couple of years ago for a rather steep (4 me) price.19:30

distrozapperJohnnyL, vst support is and will stay being a matter of luck. VST can run fine, but it doesn't have to. So nothing really new. But falktx did his best to make his host carla vst-ready.19:40

JohnnyLi used dd of=/dev/sdc1 not of=dev=sdc20:51
JohnnyLi used dd of=/dev/sdc1 not of=/dev/sdc20:52
JohnnyLanyway, do-release-upgrade would probably hurt kxstudio, no?20:52
distrozapperJohnnyL, use of=/dev/sdx instead /dev/sdx1 if /dev/sdx is your USB stick, that might do the trick20:54
JohnnyLUEFI/CSM is the selectable items that is currently CSM in my bios.20:55
JohnnyLdistrozapper: ah ok.20:55
JohnnyLdistrozapper: what if I just use ubuntu and pacakge all of kxstudio?20:55
JohnnyLmy internet hard drive failed right up till the point I got my replacement.20:56
JohnnyLi can no longer mount it, but it was only a few files.20:56
distrozapperJohnnyL, you might end up having unity as desktop environment, which isn't really what you want for doing audio stuff IMHO.20:57
JohnnyLdistrozapper:  oh ok.20:57
JohnnyLi'll get kx one last shot then.20:57
JohnnyLs/get/give20:57
distrozapperJohnnyL, kxstudio uses KDE desktop by default, which is more customizable.20:59
JohnnyLdistrozapper: ok20:59
JohnnyLhow about do-release-upgrade that will install unity?21:00
distrozapperJohnnyL, not necessarily unity, but it will upgrade to "unstable" non-LTS ubuntu.21:01
JohnnyLoverwritting kxstudio?21:02
JohnnyLnon-lts? that makes no sense.21:02
JohnnyLdru is for major revisions.21:02
JohnnyLi can sense you are from Europe.21:03
distrozapperJohnnyL, see kxstudio as an "extension pack". It lives on the ubuntu version you provide it. But it is engineered/tested on ubuntu 14.04 LTS, newer versions of ubuntu may lead to malfunctions.21:06
JohnnyLah ok21:06
JohnnyLwhen is the next expected version?21:06

distrozapperJohnnyL, I suspect that.21:16
