Indeed. +4 dBu is nearly 3.5 V pp, you can't expect much more
from a single 5 V power supply.
A decent 'pro' line out will be able to drive something like
+20 dBV (10 V RMS) into 200 ohms. That's 1/2 W.
A world of exhaustive, reliable metadata would be an utopia.
It's also a pipe-dream, founded on self-delusion, nerd hubris
