Have you considered at all Renoise? I know it's not free but it does run we=
ll on Linux and is extremely reasonably priced=2C especially compared to th=
e hardware you mention.

With the API scripting there are a few tools out that bring the kind of fun=
ctionality you desire=2C even if it isn't designed to work exactly like tha=
t as standard. In fact there is one based around the MPC2000Xl (although st=

Have known a few people say Renoise gives them the best feel of any sequenc=
er when coming from an MPC machine. Not sure how many (any?) would be Linux=
users and would have tried SEQ24 though...
