Maybe use an arduino and send out the strikes as a hardware midi stream?

There are instructions on the arduino.cc site somewhere on how to send

midi. Or else send the data over usb and convert to alsa midi in the

computer. There is a lot of stuff like this on instructables.com and

youtube.
