I use VirtualBox a little and have no audio problems using Pulse.
Matter of fact, I often have Linux playing music and have to stop it
when the virtual stuff starts with a video, etc. Only suggestion I
have it to change the virtual sound card. I use

ICH AC97

which is recommended somewhere.
