Actually, PyGTK applications.  The update manager relies on PyGTK.

Python applications not dependent on PyGTK are unaffected.

but doesn't seem to cause problems. Perhaps it's some particular APIs

within PyGTK? Or perhaps it's PyGTK and not PyGTK2?
