I use ALSA MIDI, with jack. It works. Though I've had problems with JACK SYNC in Rosegarden. Especially using the RTC/HPET. And especially when using jackmp (SMP version of jackd). Other JACK Sync programs appear to work fine, so I expect the problem is Rosegarden.
I have a firewire audio interface with one MIDI port on it. There is no ALSA support for firewire, so the MIDI interface uses JACK MIDI, and it works fine. Although it has a noticeable latency and lag compared to the ALSA MIDI, strangely enough.
I can live with ALSA MIDI until whenever JACK MIDI is complete.
