I ran your commandline on one of my m4a and it sounded great with
faad2 2.1-cvs20051104.02 and lame 3.96.1
One note though: when using Pauls script faad is hardcoded to /usr/bin/faad.
Perhaps you have another (buggy) faad in your path that's used instead.
Try running faad (without a /usr/bin path) on some song and listen to
the .wav . I bet that's hissy too.
