daeavelwyn2hi here02:08
daeavelwyn2i'm trying to use carla linux native vst plugin into Reaper linux native to (yeah!) DAW02:09
daeavelwyn2it works !02:09
daeavelwyn2but once plugin is loaded into carla (patchabay mode), I can't use my mouse to connect stuff02:10
daeavelwyn2clicking doesn't seems to work02:10
daeavelwyn2and can't drag and drop02:10
daeavelwyn2I also can't move block inside the patchbay vie02:12
daeavelwyn2view*02:13
daeavelwyn2i'm using carla from kxstudio repos02:14
daeavelwyn2and of course, I can make futher tests if needed to help to solve this02:14
bill-augerim confused - isnt carla the kxstudio plugin host? why wuold anyone want run run a plugin host itself as a plugin of another plugin host02:22
bill-augerthe redundancy aside it surely adds an extra cycle of latency - what am i missing here02:23
JackWinteryou might want to load windows vsts, lv2 or something else into reaper, that at the moment only supports lvst and it's own plugs02:24
bill-augerok if i wanted to use windows VSTs in reaper i would use windows - but then you would not be able to use any nix plugins i suppose02:36
JackWinterwell diversity is good, no?  carla does a lot of things which might be useful02:42
JackWinterbill-auger: you'd be surprised how good wvst support is beginning to get in linux02:43
JackWinterfrom my pov, the more toys you can have the better, doesn't mean you have to use it, but still just having the choice is a good thing02:44
JackWintersay your composing on linux, would be nice to have professional libs running in kontakt, no?02:45
bill-augeryes i only mean to say that adding extra latency is never a good idea - i would always want to stick with native02:46
bill-augerand to determine if dave problem is really worth fixing - from what i understand now i would assume that simply running the standard stand-alone carla would give identical performance as trying to run it as a plugin02:47
bill-augerthe whole benefit of JACK is that you are not bound to running everything in the same proc inside a single DAW02:48
JackWinterand why would it add latency?  afaik it doesn't.  might use slightly more cpu and be slightly more prone to xruns, but i can't really tell any difference anymore02:51
JackWinterreaper also works with pure alsa, no midi in that case yet though02:52
JackWinteri mean i can't tell much difference between using wvsts vs lvsts, though i use something called linvst to run win plugs02:53

JackWinterregarding jack, yes it allows a modular environment, but there is also a case to be made for a monolithic environment.  no session management, everything saved in a single host02:54
JackWinterdifferent strokes and all that.02:55
JackWinterin any case time for ZZzzzs, good festivus and best wishes!02:55

falktxthere was an issue like this 1 year ago, but it got fixed quickly10:27

daeavelwyn2falktx: ok, I gonna investigate more.here is the console output : https://pastebin.com/NeessGJF14:45
daeavelwyn2JackWinter: do you use kontakt with linvst ?14:46
JackWinternot right now, but i have it installed and it works fairly well if you disable multicpu support14:49
JackWinterdaeavelwyn2: ^14:50

JackWinterdaeavelwyn2: what is somewhat unfortunate is that NIs native access installer doesn't run..!14:59
JackWinterbut if you can install it from some older media then it works.  I have Komplete8 and installed from that.15:00
*** sirriffsalothp has joined #kxstudio15:00
JackWinterwas a bit difficult as you have to mound the media with the udf and unhide options15:03
JackWinteri think that was all, maybe it needed uid,gid too15:04
daeavelwyn2JackWinter: actually I can run kontakt 5.3.1 and it works fine, but higher version doesn't work with wine15:25
daeavelwyn2MSVCD120.dll issue already reported to wine dev15:25
daeavelwyn2and you are right, if only NI would make the effort for more linux support.... :-(15:26
daeavelwyn2in my professional used, i'm on win10/VEP/reaper, I haven't found a really stable and efficient solution on linux that can support such good libs as kontakt does15:27
*** sirriffsalothp has quit IRC15:27
daeavelwyn2but regularly I'm take the time to try solution such as carla (which is from far the best one IMO for now)15:28
daeavelwyn2i'm taking*15:28
daeavelwyn2and native linux Reaper version is now really stable !15:29
daeavelwyn2I think every audio project can be manage natively with native reaper on linux now15:29
daeavelwyn2but midi/samplers/specific windows stuff are still a pain :-/15:30
JackWinterdaeavelwyn2: i think it runs with ms dll installed, but winehq will probably know.  seem to remember something about changing windows version in wine too15:35
JackWinteryeah, kontakt is more or less the only choice...  nothing else around.  maybe hise one day15:35
