Arthur_Dhi everyone, I am using the KXStudio PPA on Kubuntu 16.04. I did an upgrade from 14.04 recently and after the upgrade, all JACK application volumes are no longer controlled by the system volume, So now they are blaring out at uncomfortable sound levels. Any help to fix this appreciated19:49

JackWinterjack has nothing to do with volume, try some mixer control like alsamixer21:27
JackWinterArthur_D: ^^21:27
Arthur_Dthat's the thing, the system volume should use/control alsamixer anyway. I can always try to use alsamixer directly tho21:35
Arthur_Dhmm that works indeed21:38
Arthur_Dnow why does system mixer not cooperate with alsamixer... bears further investigation. Thanks a lot JackWinter, I should really have checked that myself but glad you put some sense into this mix ;)21:39
JackWinterArthur_D: i think i saw systemd having problems with saving and restoring alsa volumes on my archlinux, look in dmesg21:43
JackWinteror they just got set to higher levels for some reason..  hard to say21:43
JackWinterdo you have pulseaudio?21:44
JackWintermaybe it's fscking around with the volumes?21:44
Arthur_DI do have it, but again, everything worked perfectly in 14.04, including Pulse21:46
Arthur_Dnot sure if related, but I have a program using ALSA that stopped working after the upgrade, I can't start it and it fails with some ALSA error21:47
Arthur_Dso I'm more inclined to believe ALSA has a problem to be honest21:47

JackWinterArthur_D: fwiw, back when i used ubuntu, i never had great luck with upgrades.  seeing that my home survived full installs, that is what i ended up doing22:36
Arthur_DPossibly I should've done that. However me dist-upgrading was an accident22:40
Arthur_DI meant to go to the latest 14.04 point release, which just doing normal updates would do. But I had a major brain fart and clicked on upgrade instead22:41
Arthur_DPlasma 5 in Kubuntu 16.04 is way buggy :(22:42
Arthur_DSooo now I wait impatiently for 16.10, I'll try to upgrade but it things doesn't get much better I might try a reinstall22:46
*** falktx has joined #kxstudio22:59
JackWinterplasma is buggy here too ;)23:00
JackWinteror atleast somewhat23:00

Arthur_DIt's like KDE 4 all over again. I'm really peeved about non-rolling distros like Ubuntu putting new versions of things way too early. At least they could have waited until 16.10 so the LTS actually were stable -.-23:26
Arthur_DIt's like bro, do you even distro23:26
Arthur_DI'd probably use Debian Stable if it weren't for PPA's23:27
bill-augerArthur_D:  kxstudio is completely compatible with debian23:36
bill-augeranyway your sound problem is probably only that your mixer is using the wrong ALSA device23:40
bill-augerso try alsamixer in a terminal and use F6 to change devices and see if you can work it that way23:42
