tron | hi is anybody out there? | 02:32 |
---|---|---|
tron | I've got some major beef with KXStudio | 02:32 |
tron | How can you NOT recognise anything greater than 1020x600 resolution???? | 02:33 |
bill-auger | what are you talking about? | 02:33 |
tron | somebody please tell me this is all a dream, this is my 5th linux distro in about 3 days and it's getting beyond a joke. Linux is doomed. Apart from Mint. | 02:33 |
tron | i have just installed KXstudio | 02:34 |
bill-auger | that sound prettynegative to me | 02:34 |
tron | i have a 27" monitor that goes up to 2500 x 1200 res something like that | 02:34 |
tron | all i can go up to on KXstudio is 1024 x 600 or something | 02:34 |
*** wolftune has quit IRC | 02:34 | |
bill-auger | have you considered that there is something about linux that you do not understand - instead of assuming it just sux | 02:34 |
tron | Well, let's see | 02:34 |
bill-auger | that is almost certainly dues to your video card | 02:35 |
tron | I've been on several different distros, and they all recognised my res. | 02:35 |
bill-auger | you probably have a closed-source video card that needs special drivers | 02:35 |
tron | i never said that they all had a problem with the monitor, it's just KX that does | 02:35 |
tron | tell me, what is your monitor res? | 02:35 |
bill-auger | kxstudio is just ubuntu so if your screen works on ubuntu it can work with kcstudio | 02:35 |
tron | I haven't used Ubuntu with that steup | 02:36 |
tron | also, it doesn't solve the issue | 02:36 |
bill-auger | it does not matter what is my monitor res - i have a different monitor and different video card than you - there is no way to comare | 02:36 |
bill-auger | your isssue is specfific to your video card you need to find out what model it is and which driver you need - then install that driver and be happy | 02:37 |
tron | it's a very pertinent question, because i want to know if 1024 x 600 or whatever it is, is the ceiling on KX, or if it is just an issue with my setup | 02:37 |
tron | hence i asked. | 02:37 |
bill-auger | it is not the ceiling | 02:37 |
tron | right | 02:37 |
bill-auger | screen resolution depends only on your videoi card and the driver it uses | 02:38 |
tron | well, how come even Fedora gave me the correct res? | 02:38 |
bill-auger | because fedora has the correct driver for your card installed by default | 02:38 |
tron | Fedora requires industrial machinery to pull a proprietary driver out of its tight fist, and it still gave me the monitor driver | 02:39 |
bill-auger | find out what driver that is and install the ubuntu version of it | 02:39 |
tron | ubuntu = debian? | 02:39 |
bill-auger | ubuntu is based on debian - they are similar but not identical | 02:40 |
tron | are the drivers .deb files? | 02:40 |
bill-auger | the drivers are probably the same tho | 02:40 |
bill-auger | yes | 02:40 |
tron | well damn | 02:40 |
tron | i was gonna change to AV but that's deb | 02:40 |
bill-auger | your setup work with AV linux ? | 02:40 |
tron | not tried | 02:40 |
tron | how do i go about installing my monitor drivers? | 02:41 |
bill-auger | anyways seriously you are asking this question in the wrong room - if you want some better advice about this you should ask in some ubuntu channel | 02:41 |
bill-auger | in short - you find out what video card you have - you find out which driver it needs - you install that driver | 02:42 |
tron | it's nVIDIA, aka impossible | 02:42 |
bill-auger | step by step wuld take some time hand holding - or you could find some tutorial on the web | 02:43 |
tron | actually | 02:43 |
tron | i was using Nouveau | 02:43 |
bill-auger | like the askubuntu for example | 02:43 |
tron | on Fedora | 02:43 |
tron | can i get Nouveau drivers on Ubuntu? | 02:43 |
bill-auger | ask ubuntu - i dont know | 02:43 |
tron | this is essential stuff | 02:43 |
tron | never mind | 02:43 |
bill-auger | search the web for those words instead of asking here | 02:44 |
bill-auger | you will find you answer | 02:44 |
bill-auger | search for "nvideo ubuntu Nouveau drivers " | 02:44 |
*** wolftune has joined #kxstudio | 02:46 | |
tron | i'll check out AVLinux. But if a system is gonna be custom modded and rodded, it ought to start at the beginning - allowing hi-res monitor displays. Fedora did it, even though it put me in rendering mode for graphics, it still recognised my monitor out of the box. No, l believe it's something generic, that KXstudio is missing. My GPU is nVIDIA, and Fedora put me in rendering mode and couldn't ever install nVIDIA's drivers regardless o | 02:46 |
tron | f my following some Fedora user's instructions. | 02:46 |
tron | still, after all that, it still got my monitor res correct | 02:46 |
bill-auger | kxstudio is customized for audio | 02:47 |
tron | right | 02:47 |
tron | but it doesn't bluetooth with the pineal gland | 02:47 |
tron | it requires a monitor | 02:47 |
tron | thanks for your help anyway | 02:48 |
bill-auger | if you can find the answer in the context of ubuntu - you can make it work on kxstudio | 02:48 |
tron | ok then | 02:48 |
bill-auger | this channel is small you will probably only get hepl that is specific to kxstudio | 02:48 |
bill-auger | ubuntu channels and forums are large and you wil get help much much better from tham, | 02:49 |
tron | i checked out the Ubuntu responses and they were a load of instructions that you just know will say "error - need to install agxxca package, search your repository or install it using the pkg config lolocopter command | 02:49 |
tron | " | 02:49 |
tron | i'll check out AV for now, shame really as KX came highly recommended | 02:50 |
tron | AV was destroyed last time i used it, in my early days | 02:50 |
tron | will have to revisit it | 02:50 |
*** tron has quit IRC | 02:51 | |
bill-auger | kx is highly recommended - you should not discredit it only because your video card does not work | 02:58 |
bill-auger | nvidia is not friendly to linux - it is not linux fault - you can probably go to nvidea website rght now and find your driver | 02:59 |

bill-auger | and if it does that is OK - just reinstall the OS and use the desktop it gace you or some other one | 05:01 |
bill-auger | the great things about linux is that you do not need to fear about breaking it - you can always reset | 05:02 |
