tronhi is anybody out there?02:32
tronI've got some major beef with KXStudio02:32
tronHow can you NOT recognise anything greater than 1020x600 resolution????02:33
bill-augerwhat are you talking about?02:33
tronsomebody please tell me this is all a dream, this is my 5th linux distro in about 3 days and it's getting beyond a joke. Linux is doomed. Apart from Mint.02:33
troni have just installed KXstudio02:34
bill-augerthat sound prettynegative to me02:34
troni have a 27" monitor that goes up to 2500 x 1200 res something like that02:34
tronall i can go up to on KXstudio is 1024 x 600 or something02:34
*** wolftune has quit IRC02:34
bill-augerhave you considered that there is something about linux that you do not understand - instead of assuming it just sux02:34
tronWell, let's see02:34
bill-augerthat is almost certainly dues to your video card02:35
tronI've been on several different distros, and they all recognised my res.02:35
bill-augeryou probably have a closed-source video card that needs special drivers02:35
troni never said that they all had a problem with the monitor, it's just KX that does02:35
trontell me, what is your monitor res?02:35
bill-augerkxstudio is just ubuntu so if your screen works on ubuntu it can work with kcstudio02:35
tronI haven't used Ubuntu with that steup02:36
tronalso, it doesn't solve the issue02:36
bill-augerit does not matter what is my monitor res - i have a different monitor and different video card than you - there is no way to comare02:36
bill-augeryour isssue is specfific to your video card you need to find out what model it is and which driver you need - then install that driver and be happy02:37
tronit's a very pertinent question, because i want to know if 1024 x 600 or whatever it is, is the ceiling on KX, or if it is just an issue with my setup02:37
tronhence i asked.02:37
bill-augerit is not the ceiling02:37
tronright02:37
bill-augerscreen resolution depends only on your videoi card and the driver it uses02:38
tronwell, how come even Fedora gave me the correct res?02:38
bill-augerbecause fedora has the correct driver for your card installed by default02:38
tronFedora requires industrial machinery to pull a proprietary driver out of its tight fist, and it still gave me the monitor driver02:39
bill-augerfind out what driver that is and install  the ubuntu version of it02:39
tronubuntu = debian?02:39
bill-augerubuntu is based on debian - they are similar but not identical02:40
tronare the drivers .deb files?02:40
bill-augerthe drivers are probably the same tho02:40
bill-augeryes02:40
tronwell damn02:40
troni was gonna change to AV but that's deb02:40
bill-augeryour setup work with AV linux ?02:40
tronnot tried02:40
tronhow do i go about installing my monitor drivers?02:41
bill-augeranyways seriously you are asking this question in the wrong room - if you want some better advice about this you should ask in some ubuntu channel02:41
bill-augerin short - you find out what video card you have - you find out which driver it needs - you install that driver02:42
tronit's nVIDIA, aka impossible02:42
bill-augerstep by step wuld take some time hand holding - or you could find some tutorial on the web02:43
tronactually02:43
troni was using Nouveau02:43
bill-augerlike the askubuntu for example02:43
tronon Fedora02:43
troncan i get Nouveau drivers on Ubuntu?02:43
bill-augerask ubuntu  - i dont know02:43
tronthis is essential stuff02:43
tronnever mind02:43
bill-augersearch the web for  those words instead of asking here02:44
bill-augeryou will find you answer02:44
bill-augersearch for "nvideo  ubuntu  Nouveau drivers  "02:44
*** wolftune has joined #kxstudio02:46
troni'll check out AVLinux. But if a system is gonna be custom modded and rodded, it ought to start at the beginning - allowing hi-res monitor displays. Fedora did it, even though it put me in rendering mode for graphics, it still recognised my monitor out of the box. No, l believe it's something generic, that KXstudio is missing. My GPU is nVIDIA, and Fedora put me in rendering mode and couldn't ever install nVIDIA's drivers regardless o02:46
tronf my following some Fedora user's instructions.02:46
tronstill, after all that, it still got my monitor res correct02:46
bill-augerkxstudio is customized for audio02:47
tronright02:47
tronbut it doesn't bluetooth with the pineal gland02:47
tronit requires a monitor02:47
tronthanks for your help anyway02:48
bill-augerif you can find the answer in the context of ubuntu - you can make it work on kxstudio02:48
tronok then02:48
bill-augerthis channel is small you will probably only get hepl that is specific to kxstudio02:48
bill-augerubuntu channels and forums are large and you wil get help much much better from tham,02:49
troni checked out the Ubuntu responses and they were a load of instructions that you just know will say "error - need to install agxxca package, search your repository or install it using the pkg config lolocopter command02:49
tron"02:49
troni'll check out AV for now, shame really as KX came highly recommended02:50
tronAV was destroyed last time i used it, in my early days02:50
tronwill have to revisit it02:50
*** tron has quit IRC02:51
bill-augerkx is highly recommended - you should not discredit it only because your video card does not work02:58
bill-augernvidia is not friendly to linux - it is not linux fault - you can probably go to nvidea website rght now and find your driver02:59

bill-augerit will not break your system to use another desktop05:01
bill-augerand if it does that is OK - just reinstall the OS and use the desktop it gace you or some other one05:01
bill-augerthe great things about linux is that you do not need to fear about breaking it - you can always reset05:02

alextonefalktx: in other words, will you add it to kxstudio repos, or leave it out? :)17:53
