alextoneJackWinter: Greetings. A new dev release of reaper and swell is up.15:04
JackWinteralextone: yeah, running it right now.  has support for lvst, though no gui at the moment.  only the generic controls15:05
JackWinterjustin is in the reaper chat at the moment too, if you want to drop by15:05
alextoneJackWinter: aah, right. I've just started D/L it so you're ahead of me.15:05
alextoneJackWinter: #reaper?15:06
JackWinteri have satin running in native reaper, really happy about that15:06
JackWinterreaverb too with impulses15:06
JackWinterdamn, now i probably have to buy presswerk and uhbik too ;)15:09
alextoneJackWinter: can you save projects yet?15:09
alextoneJackWinter: yes, you won't be the only one shopping. :)15:09
JackWinterinstalled distroh too, but without the real guis it's kinda hard to work15:09
JackWinteryes, you can save projects.15:09
alextoneJackWinter: excellent.15:10
JackWinterapparently it has the new notation stuff too15:10

alextoneJackWinter: this is excellent. Loaded gig files into linuxsampler as LVST plugin. It works.15:46
JackWinterhmm, i have to try that someday too, don't hardly have any .gigs though, so mostly a novelty for me15:50

JackWinteralextone: i do.  in any case for me privately a native reaper would be great.  i can already get work done with the builtin plugs, and if i can add u-he, overtonedsp, distroh, and a few others i already have a good start.  hopefully more people will use reaper in linux, and start asking plugin devs for plugs.  but who knows if it works out like that.  in any case FTW for me personally17:49
JackWinteram working on a mix of a band practice in linux now, just using the built in plugs, and some satin lvst that i configured in wine using the gui17:51

alextoneJackWinter: my workflow's different to yours as you know. Having so many midi ports to route externally, and in a LAN gives me a real chance "orchestrally".18:26
alextoneJackWinter: In a way, linux reaper is smarter than the win and mac versions as it just gives you blank ports, and doesn't automatically include those hardware devices one might not be using. They take up valuable numbers of ports that the user could assign to something else.18:27
*** wolftune has quit IRC18:27
JackWinteryeah, this must possibly be more exciting for you than for me.  imagine if it all works, you find some way to run kontakt reliably, sample accurate sound and midi transport between apps and machines, and a notation editor which from what i understand isn't bad at all for a 1st release18:28
JackWinterstill it will have that pesky midi port limit that you suffered from?18:29
alextoneJackWinter: As far as i can see, i get 64 ports in and 64 out. It's enough, now i can use them all, and not lose some to unwanted hardware devices.18:38
JackWinterso 64x16 voices?18:40
alextoneJackWinter: Yes, it's getting interesting. :)18:41
*** alextone has quit IRC18:43
JackWinter;)18:43
JackWinterbtw, i did a tweak to swell to make reaper use higher priorities, and i have to start it with chrt -f 20 reaper5 to get it to run sched_fifo at all.  but then it gets a little bit more reliable18:46
*** alextone has joined #kxstudio18:46
JackWinterthe tweak was to change swell.cpp to say: param.sched_priority = 51 + prio;18:47
alextoneJackWinter: right.19:10
alextoneJackWinter: What was it before? 10? 20?19:10
alextoneJackWinter: doesn't matter i guess.19:11
alextoneJackWinter: i just realised i have new LS templates to build, and make presets out of them.19:12

JackWinter20, or something like that19:20
JackWinteralextone: so LS does what you need from it?19:21
JackWintersomeone should build a nkx to gig converter ;)19:22
alextoneJackWinter: It does what i require when you consider my gig files are predominately all the "extra" stuff, like additional brass, woodwinds, and choirs.19:25
alextoneJackWinter: And a huge collections of odd bits and pieces of ethnic and folk instruments.19:26
alextoneJackWinter: My main libs are kontakt and i'll access those in the LAN from the win box.19:26
alextoneJackWinter: a lot of the kontakt libs these days are encrypted so i'm not sure a converter would work.19:28
JackWinterlike dvd ;)19:33
alextoneJackWinter: yep.19:34
JackWinteralextone: it's kind of instructive to use just your ears.  taking the overtone dsp plugs for a ride, and have no gui showing gain reduction, etc, so just ears like in the old days19:39
alextoneJackWinter: maybe i'm old fashioned, but i never did the fly bu gui thing. :)19:40
alextonebu=by19:40
alextoneJackWinter: the enormity of this is still sinking in... :)19:41

JackWinteralextone: 256 voices for strings, and it works?21:14
JackWinterwith LS?21:14
alextoneJackWinter: So far, yes.21:20
alextoneJackWinter: I've switched to kontakt in standalone Carla, and trying that at the moment21:21
alextoneJackWinter: Then, probably tomorrow, i'll start working on the lan.21:21
JackWinteris there zita-n2jbridge on windows?21:23
alextoneJackWinter: Not as far as i know.21:24
