thomaxhello, i run debian on my desktop. is it a good idea to use kxstudio in a virtualbox?15:59
youkithomax, why do't you use16:03
holsteinthomax: you wont have a good experience doing production work in VM16:03
youkisorry, why don't you add kxstudio repos on your Debian ?16:04
holsteinyou will want to do audio work in a native OS16:04
holsteinthats what kxstudio is trying to faciliate16:04
*** wolftune has joined #kxstudio16:05
thomaxyouki: do you think it's a better idea to mix up repositories with all the dependency conflicts?16:05
holsteini suggest dual boot, or live iso's.. so you can have bare metal.. otherwise, you can add the kxstudio sources and apps to debian, as youki suggests16:05
holsteinthomax: there are no "dependency conflicts".. the sources are well maintained, and self contained..16:05
holsteinbut, simply dual booting will address that, as well..16:05
youkithomax, i use kxstudio repos on Debian Jessie and it works well, they're made for this16:06
thomaxholstein: you mean debian source packages? compile all the stuff myself?16:06
falktx`is there any dependency conflicts?16:06
holsteinthomax: no16:06
falktx`if there are let me know16:06
falktx`I'm here to fix those16:06
holsteinthomax: i mean, there are no dependency conflict with the kxstudio debian sources that falktx` provides16:06
thomaxfalktx`: cool!16:06
youkithomax, http://kxstudio.linuxaudio.org/Repositories16:07
LAbotTitle: KXStudio : Repositories (at kxstudio.linuxaudio.org)16:07
thomaxso than i will give it a try in the next days. does kxstudio supports pd-extended as well?16:07
*** alexpolevoy has quit IRC16:08
thomaxdoesn't look like16:12
holsteinthomax: it will support it like any linux can/will16:13
holsteinthere are issues with pd, AFAIK, being included in default repos16:13
holsteini cant imagine falktx` not already packaging audio production applications for the repos..16:14
thomaxi would like to test this http://www.monologx.com/xodular/ based on pd-extended16:14
LAbotTitle: XODULAR — MONOLOG X (at www.monologx.com)16:14
falktx`I don't use pd, I won't update that cause I wouldn't know how to test it16:14
holsteinanyways, kxstudio as a base for using/running pd will be as good, if not better than any other distro16:14

distrozapperdreamer, Hi! About singing synths: Thanks again for sharing the web.archive.org link for the flinger jukebox! I wasn't aware there really are services "saving the internet" ;)18:40
dreamerwow, you didn't know about archive.org? :o18:41
thomaxi once made a track with flinger18:41
dreamerthey've been archiving the web for a long time18:41
dreamerFounded 1996; 20 years ago18:41
dreameralready they had the insight that things on the web change/disappear :)18:42
thomaxhttps://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=1&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=0ahUKEwiv_MuD_q7KAhUDGA8KHfxWBiYQtwIIHTAA&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.youtube.com%2Fwatch%3Fv%3DdDmPSskP7Uo&usg=AFQjCNHtJJzsRNgtgB_vJLmGe1tgZOLHYw&sig2=YSkN_R_2zzIqY4lwVxBfpQ18:42
dreamera lof of nice things can be found there18:42
dreamera friend has been working for them to archive a collection of media18:42
dreamerthey have stuff like all of Alan Watts' lectures etc.18:42
dreamerthomax: that's a really long youtube link ..18:43
holsteinhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dDmPSskP7Uo18:43
thomaxwell, sry.. it's a bit shorter in real :-[18:43
dreamerhehe yeah18:43
distrozapperdreamer, ehm no, shame on me perhaps ;) (I think I am getting an "old fart")18:43
dreamermaybe you forgot?18:44
dreamerI knew about them since the first years I was on the internet18:44
dreamerand as you can see they've been around for a long time18:44
dreamerI should really donate them some monies, because occasionally they really save the day18:44
thomaxi wrote a little program to get the text in sync with the note length and pauses18:45
dreamerthomax: btw, I use kxstudio repos on my stretch laptop. haven't ran in to any conflicts at all18:45
dreamer(although I mostly use it on a xubuntu netbook which runs my 'studio')18:46
thomaxdreamer: thanks, i will add the repository in the next days and see what will happen18:46
holsteinyou can always run it in parallel with a VM18:47
holsteini used to do that, with another machine, so i could test all updates with my audio interface, etc.. before doing the updates on the studio machine18:48
holsteintest the repos and updates, etc, in VM.. apply them to your main install after all is approved.18:48
thomaxholstein: it's a smart way to go18:49
thomaxdo you like my simple flinger example?18:54
holsteinthe music at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dDmPSskP7Uo ?18:55
* thomax nods18:55
holsteinseems appropriate, and well executed18:56
holsteinthe "voice" is interesting..18:56
thomaxyes, thats the flinger thing18:57
thomaxi used rosegarden to get this done.18:57
thomaxin the note sheet you can enter the song text18:58
distrozapperthomax, Hi! How did you create https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dDmPSskP7Uo ? Did you use scheme?18:58
thomaxdistrozapper: yes, the 'normal' scheme program which came with flinger and a self written script to get the midi notes and text together18:59
holsteini remember playing with festival years back..19:00
thomaxbut i think with a vocoder plugin you can get a similar result. can't use vst plugins right now because i'm not with kxstudio yet19:01
distrozapperthomax, Thanks! I once tried to explore the flinger systematics and had to stop at the scheme engine, was too much learning for me alas ;) Thanks anyway, your result is quite re-boosting my dream of a singing  synth.19:08
distrozapperthomax, yes, vocoders are nice, but I would like the "really synthesized sound".19:10
distrozapperresp. "really synthesized speech singing"19:11
thomaxdistrozapper: unfortunately the flinger project isn't in progress anymore :-(19:23
*** wolftune has quit IRC19:28
distrozapperthomax, yes, alas its head maintainer has passed away.19:29
distrozapperthomax, thanks for contribution! I like this flinger singing because of its "imperfectness".19:31
thomaxdistrozapper: i used some audio filters to get it smoother, as far as i remeber19:32
thomaxit's several years ago19:32
distrozapperthomax, I see, it is years ago too I have played with flinger.19:33
* distrozapper dislikes telephone answer machines sounding human, I would like them to have a distinguishable "machine characteristic", with a high-grade understandability. Just to be able to recognize (in future) whom I am talking to: A machine or a real human person.19:43
thomaxdistrozapper: good taste19:46

distrozapperthomax, you were using rosegarden along with flinger?22:08
distrozapperthomax, sounds VERY interesting in my ears;)22:09
thomaxdistrozapper: yepp, i made one track with the notes of the voice and entered the text to the note sheet, then i wrote a little program which translated the the notes in . and slashes for the note lengths which, along with the midi voice track and the text got into the scheme program which produced the wav file.22:19

distrozapperthomax, Hm so you make me curious about rosegarden ;) I know what it is, but I seldomly start it (I am a bedroom musician;))22:33
thomaxdistrozapper: me too. but with rosegarden you can have a note sheet which includes the midi notes and the text along22:34
distrozapperthomax, ah yes, I begin to remember now...22:38
*** FXpro_ has joined #kxstudio22:40
distrozapperthomax, you just triggered (my single) neuron ;)22:40
*** FXpro has joined #kxstudio22:41
thomaxyou need to make two tracks, one must be called melody (without the text) and one called lyrics, with the notes (or pauses) and the text22:42
thomaxthis midi file is used in the scheme file.22:43
*** FXpro_ has quit IRC22:43
thomaxthe main problem is, to get the text correctly into the note sheet22:43
thomaxoh, and get a working festival with flinger22:43
distrozapperthomax, yes I think this is what made me resign.22:44
thomaxdistrozapper: yepp, i don't have a working flinger right now. but i could try to get one..22:45
FXprohi.  I gotta a question.  is there anything like dfx (fxsound.com) for debian?22:46
FXproI am downloading kxstudio 64bit for a live test run now.22:47
distrozapperthomax, but I will retry that way you told now, maybe there is better chance today. Thanks in advance! :)22:47
FXprothe sound on this computer is complete garbage, gain is too low but I was able to fix it on windows with dfx audio enhancer which improved the sound far beyond my expectation.22:47
*** falktx has quit IRC22:59
distrozapperFXpro, have you tried VLC?23:01
FXproyeah, I wanted something system level for dsp processing however like dfx does in windows and I know it exists, jack or something like that.23:06
FXprothe ppl at ap-linux said this via email, "Real time kernel and jack. Then use Deadbeef player with jack plugin"23:06
FXprothis kxstudio distro looks fancy spancy.  linux has come a looooong way since last I played with it23:08
*** scary_hallo has joined #kxstudio23:08
FXprovlc is built into most if not all distros now a days.  also this distro has the pulse audio program integrated.23:09
FXprodoesnt seem to help much though.23:09
